i ran the above named program on my desktop PC and it came up with an update for Realtec Audio so i let it do the job and after the update installed it required a restart after this the usual loading screen came up then at the stage where i have to put in my password i got a message that "YOUR COPY OF WINDOWS NEEDS ACTIVATION AND THE KEY YOU HAVE ENTERED IS NOT GOOD" so i re-booted with the same result in the screen it asked for a new code or activate later so i chose activate later with that the desktop loaded but was black and I had no access to any of windows apps a pop up said your copy of windows is not legal?

after a lot of trying to sort it out i re-formated and having everything backed up it was no big deal.

Has anyone else used this software?????

    Hi Bill

To be honest I never use this type of software as I do not think that its accurate, yes it may get the name of the driver correct but many motherboard makers have the likes of Realtek adjust their onboard hardware chips to "their" specifications, so this renders in many cases the unified driver as the wrong one to install.

For many onboard hardwares, its always best to stick to the Motherboard makers drivers only.

I agree with Halo.... my feeling with drivers is "if they aren't broke, don't fix 'em". I see no need to update drivers unless a particular program requires a newer driver. Some games require newer video drivers and this is about the only situation I can think of where a driver update would be mandatory. Sometimes games will run better with a newer video driver but the update isn't really required. However, I do check my motherboard maker's web site maybe 3-4 times a year just to see if any unknown issues have been discovered and rectified; in a situation like this, I'll update a driver. Other than these scenarios, IMO driver updates are basically un-necessary and possibly may cause more problems than they can fix (as you discovered). I also think that using a 3rd party tool to install drivers isn't a good idea. Maybe using something like Driver Magician to find out if a new driver is available, but not to actually download and install it. The margin for error is too great. It's good thing you had a recent back up. I wish everyone did that!

    Just my two cents...

Was that what it said verbatim, or was that a translation?

I suspect malware, especially considering your "interactive services" thread.

I am not sure if it was verbatim but that was the main theme of the message.

the interactive problem came after the re-format and before i opened my backup folder.
