Driver or hardware problem?

My next step, of course, is to take this to a local pc repair shop, but I thought I'd take a chance and ask here first: My monitor (or driver?) is having problems with keeping settings.

I have to keep the contrast ALL the way up, and the brightness ALL the way down for anything to look even remotely normal. Nothing I've done so far has helped, and this problem makes everything on the web (and otherwise) look awful. Black backgrounds aren't true black, so the images look like squares sitting on a 'somewhat black' background (just as one example).

I do a lot of web work (graphics and design) and this is really creating havoc big time. I've reinstalled the drivers, and I've used the Adobe gamma loader... but nothing's working. It'll fix itself for a time, but then the next time I logon... it looks like hell again.

Any clues??? Ideas??? Drop kick the thing into the gulf, maybe???

What brand and model monitor is this?
What kind of video card and drivers are you using?
Last what is your refresh rate & resoulution settings?

Dont toss it in the gulf, there is enough garbage in there already.

Is simple to know if it's your monitor, try another monitor see if the problem still there, or try your monitor on a friends pc.
