I'm working on a Gateway laptop model MX6131 and it has some problems (like the CDROM bay is malfunctioning) but the main problem is with these 3 drivers: Sound, on board ethernet, and the on board modem. I've tried the drivers from Gateway.com and they didn't work (they didn't even provide a driver for the chipset or the WLAN). It's and Intel 852GM chipset and I got the video driver and chipset software from Intel.com ('cuz the Gateway.com video driver didn't work). I have the recovery DVD and the drivers on that don't work either. I've tried using the 'setup.exe', I've tried going thru the device manager and loading the .inf's. Nothing seems to be working for those 3 drivers. Everything else is fine. Sound=Conexant AC-Audio (or AC Link Audio), Modem=Conexant ACLink PCI modem, On Board NIC=I think it's BroadCom (the WLAN is BroadCom) but I don't know the chipset number. Everest and Aida report [No DB]..... any help, links, suggestions will be greatly appreciated!!! THANX!!!

I have had a similar experience with a gateway MX6xxx with modem and sound drivers. I assume that when you try to install the drivers it fails saying "cannot install driver without software" and the driver you download from the website is only the driver and not the software so you will never be able to install it. The only way is the restore dvd that installs all software and drivers via RunOnceEx. I think that the one that comes with laptop is only the OS and yo have a drivers disk.

you NEED you fix that cdrom bay issue and order a restore disk from gateway for $20
