I just downloaded the Driver Scanner trial from MG, and upon running, it found 6 drivers that were outdated and was ready to download and install the newer versions IF I purchased the program.
Went to Device Manager to check on them. DM could not find anything better than what is already installed on my machine.
    Who to believe?

I ran Driver Scanner too and it found 13 outdated drivers - wanted me to sign up to get the install. At 24 euros it seems a bit steep. I checked out some other sites and a lot say Uniblu find more outdated drivers than other methods.
Reviver Driver was also mentioned but WoT gave this site such a bad score I didn't even enter it!
Does anyone else use WoT? (The Mozilla Add-on using ratings to judge safety, service etc) It's like reviews I guess but I'd like to know how accurate that is.
WoT didn't like Uniblu much either but didn't try to stop me going on the site
What about Driver Max? Anybody used that? It's free and seems to do everything so I was thinking of giving it a go before lashing out 24 euros

    Hi,
My advice would to be leave driver finding software well alone,it can in most cases royaly mess your machine up, always go to the original source of the drivers that are missing or need updating..i.e... motherboards maker, machines maker, Intel, Realtek, Amd and the likes!!
If you ever get stuck you can always ask for assistance here!! which I believe is second to none for help and advice!!
I would never install drivers that are been sourced via driver finding software, I have used the software to find the names and versions of the drivers I've needed and then sourced them from their original origin.
One more thing to add is that the normal caveat here is...... IF IT AINT BROKE .... WHY FIX IT!!!!!! i.e.. especially with drivers.. if your system is running smoothely don't change anything unless your system asks for it!!!
    Hope this helps :major

    Thanks for that Iain
I think I will just leave it alone and save myself some time and some cash!
    Cheers

    HI all

I'm with iain.t in that I do not ever advocate the use of driver scanner as they cannot ever find all the driver veriations that a PC will use, they may find unified drivers, but these in some cases are not applicable to OEM built PCs like those from HP, Dell, ACER etc as these OEMs customise the hardware and thus driver.

SO only source the driver from the OEM or original maker of the hardware, the only cavete to this is in Graphics driver as the unified ones from ATI, nVidia and Intel generally work fine, unless you have a specific resolution of screen your laptop or netbook etc uses.

Drivers are free and should never be paid for IMHO, and they are not as far as I know from the OEM makers.
