Driver Search Program

  1. I was wondering if there was a program out there that can scan your computer for your drivers. I am going to wipe my HDD and install a fresh version of W7 Home Premium x64 bit. I want to find the names of the drivers before wiping the hard drive so I can download them all have have them ready to install after the re-installation of the OS.

    Thanks for all your help.

In Control Panel>Device Manager all hardware will have a driver tab. Copy down the names of any you need. Have you installed anything that required a cd or download when you installed it -ie a camera or printer or any external device? Reinstalling from a factory partition or a dvd?

I have used DriverMax to make a backup of the drivers onto a secondary drive and then reinstall DM after the you reinstall the OS and run the restore feature in DM for the drivers. It has worked perfectly for me...

If you don't want to do that, you can go to the manufacturer's website and to the downloads page for your PC. Might not be the latest drivers, though...

What is the brand of your computer? Some, like my Toshiba Satellite, come with a program like what you're looking for. It's called Toshiba Service Station. It searches for driver updates and others too (like BIOS) and provides alerts of issues.

Posters here have mentioned this quite a few times

What brand computer? I have Acers (same company as Gateway and eMachine) and have a program installed from the company that allowed me to burn a driver CD. Perhaps if you look in Programs and under the computer brand, you have a utility like this.

  6. My laptop is a Toshiba Satellite but my tower that I'm also installing the OS on was built so there isn't any model specified to it. On the tower should I just look at the the hardware? I've used Belarc Advisor in the past. Would that help find drivers?

Check Toshiba's site for your model and see if the drivers showing there are the same versions on the laptop.

Belarc, if I remember correctly doesn't do much as far as drivers.

Here's one that will give info on all the drivers installed

I like Nirsoft programs because they are small and get to the point.

  8. Does Belarc help identify hardware like: RAM, Graphics Card, Video Card, Motherboard etc...?

Best I've seen for that is HWiNFO. It identifies hardware and even shows sensor data (temps, voltages, etc). There is a portable version, so I'll spare you the Major Geeks link to the regular version in case you would prefer the portable. Google "download HWiNFO", and you should see your options for obtaining the program...
