Assuming most techies agree that updating drivers is a good thing. Is there any reliable software that anyone recommends that will do the driver check and install? I know this can be done manually, but I don't trust my skills that much and don't mind paying, within reason, to get this software on my pc. Any advice? Thanks in advance.

Well, here's one: http://www.drivershq.com/ I haven't used it; I just found it via Google.

But, generally, I wouldn't be too concerned about whether all your device drivers are the latest version. As they say, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." Unless you're having specific problems or you've heard of significant improvements in later drivers, I wouldn't be too concerned about this. That's my opinion; others may disagree.

Of course, one way, perhaps the best way, to search for the latest drivers is to visit the manufacturer's website.

not always! My theory, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Unless I'm having a problem with a piece of hardware, I usually do not do a search for updated drivers. Also, I never let MS update any drivers. I did that twice and got burned both times. Now I simply ignore that section of the windows update site.

Agreed, its not always that updating drivers will work ok, also depends on where you are getting the drivers from, its its listed in an driver finder applciation then majority of the time these applications DO NOT know or distinguish between OEM and Retail motherboards and can offer up the unified driver which may not work ok on a OEM PC, as in Laptop for instance.

If you have a OEM PC as in HP, DELL etc then only update drivers as listed on their support site, if custom build PC and using a retail motherboard as from ASUS, Gigabyte, Intel etc then only get drivers from their support and same with Graphics Card, if ATi or Nvidia.

Personally I do not trust these driver apps for the reasons above, they are not accurate IMHO at all, so if your PC is working fine then the old docterine of "dont fix whats not broken" is apt.

If you do wish to update or check on updates, then please post what make and model PC you have if OEM (Dell, HP etc ) or what motherboard and gfx card you have and we maybe able to assist in if their are any updates that need installing.
