    Greetings
I've had some up date issues and some are solved
have reciently been able to update an older HP Pavilion dv4000 to sp3
and i would like to check the status of drivers.

has a history of not being able to be identified at the HP home page for updates.

I've had flash and silverlight issues while surfing

and have gotten some help in the malware forum .. but have issues that need to be addressed in a different place..

    can you direct me?
    thanks

I've been there before.. and again i get an error when running that .
    it says
A network error occurred while attempting to read from the file
    C:\Documents and settings \ User\My Documents\downloads\HPSupportSolutionsFramework[1].msi

I had hoped that getting the sp3 updated would help.. apparently not.

    any suggestions appreciated.

I posted my error on the HP forums..
and to inform you of my previous visit there.
    ( pre - sp3 update)
theyre solution was to run a mr fixit.. which was not able to work either.

    Hi

Just to recap in case I have missed anything in another thread on Majorgeeks or elsewhere, could you tell us what drivers in Device Manager have any yellow ! mark by them?

Plus let us know what devices are not working like Audio etc?

If as you mention the HP site is not listing any updates for you automatically then I would just manually look at the dates and if they have any current ones in the last month or so then maybe you could need them, but if you PC is working ok, then don't install anything as old adage of don't fix what's not broken is apt for PCs.

I click on the Blue Next button (avoid the Red Scan button). I see a list of drivers. I open the + in front of one of the categories and click the Blue download button and it downloads.
I'm not on an HP computer and I can download all the drivers.

thanks for the tip on Device mgr.
I opened and clicked on + and did not find any ! marks

? I did see what appears to be 3 duplicate "Plug and Play Monitor"
i just checked properties and left it alone.. dont know what's supposed to be there.

Re: driver up date from HP - its not that HP is not listing any drivers.
    - its that it cannot run the ?autodetect software?
I dont know how to install the driver even if i knew which one to get.

I'll give a some history and whats not working.. ( audio / video play back)
and slow ? system issues? like typing that lag's <thats better now>
and "alt + tab" swiching btwn pages. to mention 2

Its hard to know what will be useful.. I'll try and cover the essentials.
I started having trouble early November.. especially with netflix - and audio/video issues..

I use this HP Pavilion dv4000 XP 1G ram (thats all it will hold)
    - for movies / on line research Permaculture & nutrition classes audio - video. I like to record these w/ Audacity software.

pre - Nov.. I did not have trouble before this time playing or recording.

--- I first noticed issues with Netflix - not being able to R-wind or forward with in video. which began my saga... I thought perhaps a silverlight update may have been the cause. Thus began the ping pong like search for solutions.
I have been talking / chatting / seeking help from
    - Netflix chat and phone support
    - My Internet Service Provider
    - HP update home page and 1-800 (assistance)
    - and MSoft chat.
all who said i needed to update to sp3.. (which it was unable to do with auto update for the 2 years i've had this hand me down - but i got a link to direct update). This computer has had issues with up dates for any thing. Even direct / manual updates do not work ( Microsoft Security Essentials is currently up to date but in past when i see 5 days since update and ask to manually up date i would get an error.)

Since it had been ? wiped clean ? dont know if that's right terminology.. or accurate.. but the auto up date was turned on.. not not updating. I had been to HP to try and get any update directly ... Device Dr was on the Desk top and i assume that's what they used at the time to update ? things?
** problem here** is that when selecting my make and model .. the hp web auto detect did not < and still does not> recognize this lap top.. to be able to detect if there is a driver update available.

also.. several times a mr fixit tool has been recommended to use and there is an error with that.. and not able to run

-- I've been able finally update to sp3 and 3 times it has been able to do follow up "update's" since sp3 installation. I have gotten a different router from ISP.. w/ as fast as i can get it.. internet connection.. <country living has its drawbacks in speed availabity> that said.. i dono why if it worked in October.. its not working now...

    Current Problems still existing.. are
-Audio playback sound is very choppy.. and irritating to listen to.
    - cannot go back in netflix movie 3 minutes < or forward> with out maxing out system reasources and stalling the whole computer which usually my patients or lack there of - ends up in a hard reboot.

People tell me i run computers hard.. ( ie many windows open and many tabs in each.. i like it that way.. old habits developed when dial up was all we had)
However i have modified my habits to 2 windows one with the playing item. and one that I use with a google home page so that if i can close out the offending page.. i have one open to get back to the audio/video i was watching..

I have been working with chaslang in malware and other than parasitic additions to software download's ("my search" may still be on there and AVG some how got a search bar some thing on FFox) I dont think there are any major infections. s/he recommended i get help.. in another forum for these issues.

I also had tried a system restore for pre november and even tho there was an available date then.. it could not use that time.. i was able to do a system restore to a november date.. but .. that did nto help the issues.

I know this is an old under powered computer but its still got lots of HD space and i would like to use it to record classes and seminars.. and a little surfing.
If i can improve the audio / video play back.. that would be great.
Thanks in advance for your assistance
