I've owned several computers over the years, current OS is win 10, and I've never used one of these tools and never have had any problems as far as I know. Is it necessary to do so?

i would think that depends on your level of comfort, and how one uses a computer. on my window computers, as long as my computer is working as expected, i don't update anything, except for web browsers. i would imagine this would be different for those that play the newest games. but for normal stuff, if it ain't broke, then i don't fix it. saves me a lot of time and heartache, and i am perfectly fine with that. guess i should add that i have heard that win10 updates can include driver updates for your various hardware pieces. if so, then it might be worth using one of those programs to backup your current drivers, just in case a windows driver update borks your computer. but that is an area i do not know too much about. good luck with it.

Yea but they are often either out of date or way out of date. I'm not sure on this but it seems that developers tend to distribute their new driver updates through their own channels instead of through MS.

Iobit Driver Booster has never let me down and is great at finding the best driver for your system. A few times it has installed the correct driver that MS didn't give me through Windows Update. It can save a lot of time because hunting down the right driver, not necessarily the most recent driver, can be a headache.

Just pay attention during the install process and don't let it install the optional software.

Normally gamers don't update graphics drivers until they are very sure all is well and they won't cause problems.
I would never update for the sake of it and sometimes not for a couple of years or more.....and that applies to all drivers in my case.
I have never, and would never, use an automatic updater.

Different strokes for different folks. About 6 months ago a Windows Update broke/disabled my display settings. I figured out it was a driver issue and spent a few hours hunting for the right driver. Even AMD was installing the wrong driver. I finally tried Iobit and in 5 minutes everything was back to normal.

I do agree though with the 'if it isn't broke don't fix it' approach to drivers and there is only a few third party software that I would trust. But when doing a clean install from the Media Creation Tool it is too much of a headache and time consuming looking for drivers especially when I now know that Iobit will do it for me in just a few minutes.
