I was having trouble getting online at home, (I'm at work now, using wireless), & called my ISP for help. The tech that I got had me try all kinds of things, & at the last, had me go into the control panel, & check my drivers. Under the network devices, I have 3 different things listed. One is called Microsoft 6to4 adaptor, & there's a yellow exclamation point on it. He had me uninstall it, to see if that helped get me online, but it didn't. Then he told me I had a bad interface card, & that I would have to contact the manufacturer. I have a new Dell Inspirion 1525 that is less than 6 mos old. I'm not having any trouble getting online at work, but am having trouble opening some of the pages I want to open. Any suggestions? (This same tech tried to sell me a digital t.v. converter box for $59.99, when I have cable.)

:wave Welcome to Major Geeks! :major

What version of Windows are you using? Vista? XP? Have you tried a system restore? Have you tried re-installing the drivers? The drivers are available from the following links:
    Ethernet: http://support.dell.com/support/dow...-1&impid=-1&formatcnt=1&libid=5&fileid=227515
    Wifi (Intel): http://support.dell.com/support/dow...-1&impid=-1&formatcnt=1&libid=5&fileid=220548
    Wifi (Dell 1395): http://support.dell.com/support/dow...-1&impid=-1&formatcnt=1&libid=5&fileid=236824
These are Vista drivers. If you need XP drivers, use this link.

I use Vista. I uninstalled & then reinstalled it, but the yellow exclamation mark is still there. I'll try these links & see if I can get help there. Thanks for the info.

    Base System Device

I had posted a request for help re-installing the base system device. I went back to the support page at Dell, & typed in base system device, which took me to a forum similiar to this one. They had a link to click on, & said to down load it through the browser & not the download manager. I got it reinstalled with no problem. Thanks for being a sounding board!

WOW! Over a year later!!! Just so everyone knows, when you see "Base System Device", 95% of the time it is referring to a media reader of some type. The most common being the Texas Instruments PCIxx11/21 device, or the Ricoh 5-in-1 Media Reader. You can use your PC just fine w/o using these drivers, and you'd probably never need 'em unless you use digital 'film' sticks from a digital camera regularly....

Thanks for the heads up! After a link on a reply to another user on Microsoft, I finally managed to get the problem fixed. The base system devices disappeared. Not sure what happened with it, but one thing I did find is that my ac adapter cord was bad, & I ordered a new one. I think the ac adapter caused all of the problem because when I first started having the problem was right after I got an error message saying 'ac adapter unknown', & my battery wouldn't recharge. I borrowed an adapter from a friend that has the same laptop, & managed to get the battery charged up above 10%, then was able to reinstall my BIOS. After I got it installed the device error disappeared.
By the way, I love your site, & tell all my friends to look on your site first when they need something!
