Drives keep changing

    I have an external USB2 connected to my computer. An External storage drive and about 6 USB 1 and2 in my computer. As of lately, whenever I go to pull up a drive it is located as a different letter. I am running, Windows XP and have no idea why this is happening. Any suggestions? It confuses me when I am saving files to a flash drive or my external drive. Thank you in advance for any suggestions.

    If you remove any drive (external large hd or USB stick) from a USB port, it can change letters the next time it is inserted. If you wish to maintain the same letter arrangement, keep it plugged in to the same port all the time. Go into Admin Tools and assign the drive a letter.
    I keep my WD 80GB external plugged in to the same rear USB port on one computer. I don't have the power on all the time. I've assigned it drive letter S (for shared). As soon as I turn the power to the external on, my computer recognizes drive S.
