I think that maybe something has been change in your group policies, or that somehow web drop-down menus have been otherwise 'turned off'. Here's a link to Windows XP group policy registry keys and what their values should be: http://www.j79zlr.com/gphome.php You can download full Excel spreadsheet of these same settings that is likely to be more complete (and easier to search) since it's from Microsoft; click this link for the download page. It says it's for Windows 2003 Server, but if you scroll down a bit, you'll se that it's for XP also.... I hope this helps!

Let us know if you find a fix in the links I posted... if not, we'll try something else. ;)

Thanks for the reply. I not so comfortable playing with the registry. don't want to mess things up more. Is there something else it might be? I was thinking maybe its a virus? or maybe because my computer is low on virtual memory?( I get warning messages).

Also, another problem...when I open up word or excel to try an print the program shuts down right away..Are both problems related?
    thanks.

Both problems may be related, but it's hard to say for sure. I'll do some research and see if there's a .REG file that includes all the group policy settings and their normal default values. That way you wouldn't have to mess around in the registry, you can just double click the REG file and it will merge with the registry and set everything back to how it should be. Do you have problems printing with other programs? Open up Notepad and type something -anything- and try to print it. If it works OK, then chances are you printer drivers and software or OK, and the problem is with Office. Uninstalling Office and reinstalling it will likely fix the problem with Word/Excel, but, as is the case with PCs, nothing is 100% guaranteed. Just make sure you have your Office install disc and Product Key before uninstalling it. If you don't have the Product Key, you can use something like ProduKey to extract it (does not work with Office 2000).

Give me a few days to try to find the REG file (if such a thing exists; if not, I suppose I could write one)

I was going to look into possibilities here KEY: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Restrictions , but apparently there is no Restrictions folder...

ill give it a google search too.
