    Hello everyone,

I have a disaster on my hands. My daughter tripped on the power cord to my laptop and pulled it onto the floor.

I now have a lovely multicolored screen. I need to get my files off the laptop, so today I went and purchased a VGA Cable. I've connected the laptop to my Sharp Quatron television.

(Laptop: Toshiba Satellite P100 with Windows XP)

    Here's what is happening,

I turn on the laptop, The Toshiba Page Comes Up on my TV, then the MicroSoft Windows XP startup screen.

After a few seconds the TV goes blank and my laptop screen turns on and displays my login/password page. I have no way of knowing if my mouse is on the password field to type in my password. It's driving me crazy.

I restarted the computer to see if I could get into the SetUp Screen and have it come up on my TV. Sucess! It did. (Pushing F2 - Phoenix Bios Setup Utility Screen) I have full control of the screen using my keyboard.

Now is there anyway of terminating my password or getting the login screen to come up on my tv so that I can enter my password? Any help would be appreciated.

    Cheers and Thank you.

UPDATE - Good News and Bad News

The good news is I got lucky and hit the password field and was able to get my computer booted up.

The bad news is that nothing is coming up on my television.

Why would the Windows Startup screen and Bios Setup Utility Screen come up on my tv but not my home page?

Please help....I need to get my files off so I can continue to work.

    Cheers,
    Global

My suggestion: instead of wasting time trying to troubleshoot the tv display problem, remove the hd from the laptop. Attach it by a USB adapter to another computer and get your files off. Once you have your files safely elsewhere, you can try changing some settings
    Example of a USB adapter

A laptop has a 2.5" connector. I'm not sure if your drive is IDE or SATA bit that adapter does both and also works for 3.5" and 5.25" drives (desktop hard drives and optical drives)
