lately i've been having these weird episodes while i'm browsing through the windows explorer when everything suddenly freezes, the entire desktops stops responding, and i'm forced to restart. recently, i got a windows error about "drwatson postmortem debugger" malfunctioning, and surprise, my desktop froze again. i opened task manager, whcih is basically the only thing i can do when it freezes, and i ended something called drwtsn or something like that, it was obviously drwatson. so this thing, whatever it is, is causing my freezes.

i googled it, and seems to be some confusion as to what it is, and whether it is a virus or not. some say it is leftover from windows 3.x, others say it shouldnt be there if i havent installed it. could someone clear this up for me, and if possible, pinpoint a way for me to stop these frozen desktop episodes?

i can post a hijack log if necessary

Dr Watson is not malware. It is part of the Windows OS. And it runs automatically if your system is crashing. You problems may or may not be malware related. The only way we can tell for sure is by having you follow the steps below. HijackThis is far from the first step and while it is a useful tool it does not detect many problems that the scanning procedures below will.

Please follow our standard cleaning procedures which are necessary for us to provide you support. Also there are steps included for installing, running, and posting HijackThis logs as attachments.

    - Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ & RUN ME FIRST Before Asking for Support

Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.

    - Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.

After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps in the below link to properly use HijackThis and attach a log:

    Downloading, Installing, and Running HijackThis
