so according to a website in order for me to connect a ps3 controller to my pc it says i need a bluetooth dongle, however my computer has a built in bluetooth, could I possibly use that instead of the bluetooth dongle, or do a specifically need the dongle?

    Hi

Yes you should be able too as BT driver should work as its going to do the same job as a BT dongle, may need to follow some of the advice HERE as to driver signature enforcement disabling to get the controller and driver to work.

Cool but will I still be able to use other bluetooth device with the bluetooth that's built in alongside the controller or will the bt device be dedicated to the controller?

Also I'm having trouble following the directions win+c brings up cortana and unfortunately that's as far as I've got since there isn't anything known as pc settings. the way they say it they must have a different win 10 than i do

In the post above the one you reference, there are instructions for doing it by command line:

that makes better sense, they shoulda stated command prompt rather than use win + c as what they said. Even cmd.exe would've made better sense than that.

However you still didn't answer my previous question, and that is will I still be able to use my bt for other devices that require it, or will it be dedicated to just the controller?

Try to pair up with the other device and see what you get. Let us know. Maybe a bt controller and speaker at the same time?

that may take a while seeing as how I don't have a spare ds3 controller. I know i have three but i couldn't find the other two.

An exact answer depends on knowing what Bluetooth unit is in your laptop. I have a Thinkpad from 2009 and have 2 phones, 2 other computers and a set of earphones paired, so I would suspect yours is similarly capable. If it's newer, perhaps more so.

actually my computer is a desktop an alienware x51 for clarification. I do have one question though how did you find out what the installed bt on your computer was, I've been trying to figure that out for some time now.
