My friend was having some problems after he installed his DSL in his home, which is equipped with one of those alarm systems that work through the phone line. The modem starts up but his DSL light never becomes solid. All I remember is that his modem is a speedstream. He called his provider and they told him it is possible to fix the problem but it was going to require a tech visit which would cost him $200. They wouldnt tell him how it could be done so I was wondering if anyone knew anything about the problem.

he needs to put a blocker on the alarm system's connection to the phone line. If he has other phones on the line, they should have the same blocker.

The company who provided the dsl modem should have given him blockers.
