My ISP has the modem/router they let me rent locked down so I can't configure it to forward ports. I have called them several times to get them to open ports for me but they said that they can't figure out how to do it. Their tech support is a joke and it is getting very frustrating, all I want to do is open ports so xbox and my utorrent client work properly. So since I can't use their modem to open ports my sister gave me a DSL modem that she is no longer using from at&t, I tried hooking it up and am unable to get a connection to the internet. Is it possible to use the at&t modem to connect instead of the one my ISP gave me? What do I have to configure in the modem to get this to work?

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

Would have to know your current isp, there exact connection type ppoe/ppoa, mac address auth, basiculy you need your isp to help you setup that new modem, if they will even do that, or would need lots more information.

If I give you the information that is needed is there any way you can walk me through it? When I access the isp's gateway I can't configure it but it does give me some information. It has 2 ip's listed one is the wan and the other the lan ip. It gives me a mac address which I think belongs to the gateway. Gateway model# Zyxel P-660HW-D1 v2. It doesn't say anything about ppoe/ppoa and I don't know how to find what type of connection it is. Oh and it says system mode is set to routing not bridging. When I log into the other DSL modems configuration page I can see where I can input all this stuff but not really sure what number to plug in and don't want to risk messing something up without assistance. Oh and the ISP is called ACE Communications some podunkville service provider.

No i can't walk you through it. If your not capable on your own as much as i hate to say, you probably shouldn't try. What happens is if down the road you loose service that isp wont support your 3rd party modem, and you would just be out of luck.
