my dsl speed is lower than expected. i just moved and the service i got here is suppose to be faster than my previous home. i got the package that is one above the normal one. anyways my previous home my average download speed is 150 but here i am only getting it in the 40's or 50's. its starts off really fast and it just drops. it starts in the 300's and really quick it drops down. anyone have any clue why that is?

Well from what I understand you see 300kb/sec then it dropps, thats normal with any connection its called the burst speed. You see it will modem too when they start out at say 23kb/sec, then drop to 11, then 5, 4, then settle in around 2kb/sec. As far as why your DSL is slower at your new location, you would have to give us speeds of the service that you ordered for us to tell you what you should see. In the mean time, check and make sure all your filters, etc are connected properlly, and post the plan that you did order.

    1.5 download 128 upload

i ordered the service which is the 1.5 down and 128 upload speed. i know its not this service i am getting right now. i did make a call to my dsl company and i found out why. it appears the dsl lines in my neighborhood can handle that service. it can only handle the 768 down speed. So thank you for your response but i am afraid the lines sux in my neighbor hood so there is nothing i can do except order cable.

ooh, that must stink. Do you have cable modem service where you live? But, I'm not sure weather it's any faster than DSL. I'll need to reasearch that. But from what I've heard, they're faster.

when ordering DSL, you should always ask what your guaranteed line speed is at the distance they tell you that you are at. I'm sure you read the fine print there would be something saying that line speed depends on distance from the node.
