We had a thunderstorm 3 days ago and all are phone jacks stopped working EXCEPT for the jack that we have our DSL line attached to. After 2 days all the jacks seem to be working again but what has happened since then is that the DSL line will not work through the surgeprotector, we have to attach the DSL line dirctly into the phone jack in order for it to work. I took another surgprotector from upstairs and tried that one but i couldn't get the DSL to work via that surgeprotector either.
My question is: should I buy a new surgeprotector or is this a "phoneline problem"? All the power elements of the sureprotector are working fine, just not the phone element. Anyone heard of this before?

I've not heard of this before but a couple of things to note:

A phone line with and active DSL connection requires a 'filter'

    http://www.internet-guide.co.uk/DSL-Filters.html

Plug the surge protector into the main phone line socket and then plug the filter into the protector, then plug your phone into the filter and the modem/router into the dsl side of the filter.

Sorry if you already knew this but I figured i'd mention the simple solution first ;)

I tried your suggestion but it didn't work. I have filters in all my phone lines. We even changed the DSL modem and all the filters to new ones and that didn't work either. That's what makes me think it's either the phone line or the surge protector.

Did you say that the dsl works when connected to the phone line ?

It may be the surge protector or the fact that there are built in filters in the phone.

if it works plugged straight into the wall jack then your problem is your surge protector. Just plug it into your phone jack, and leave the surge protector out of it. your problem might also be in your filter setup. one of my friends had a filter for his dsl line, and he pluged the filter into the phone jack and then pluged the dsl line into the filter, and it messed the whole thing up. when i got to reading in his support guide, it told in there not to set it up like we did or it won't work. i have no clue how else to set it up, but we pluged it straight in and it works now.
