Lately when I run spybot s&d the only thing it finds is listed as "DSO Exploit 3 entries". So I go ahead and tell it to fix the problem then when I rescan it the dso exploit is still there? Can someone tell me what this is and how do I get rid of it. Ad Aware does not detect it.

Mayb -- after turning off system restore -- start Windows in safe mode and running Spybot from there. If it's hiding in yout restore points that will get it.

DSO Exploit is a false positive you can ignore it.

from what i could work out (mine had 5 entries) its got something to do with registering at MS, visiting their tutorials etc. my spybot cleans it off also. and it returns immediately also. at the edge of the spybot page (right hand side) there are some arrows. hit those and more info appears. aloha

Spybot S&D found the same 3 DSO exploits on my system. I spent the better part of my free time for a week trying to fix things...found the hotkeys involved, etc. I found a "fix" but it involved changing the registry--time to call in a major geek that I used to work with. He told me by phone that the DSO exploit is not a problem...it ties in with a Microsoft glitch and that I should ignore it. I used Spybot's feature to turn it off so that it doesn't continually show at each scan and, so far, all's well for a couple of months.

I ran the patch and now when I scan it tells me there are 2 dso exploits. Oh well ... got rid one one. Since it is nothing serious guess I can live with that. Thanks for the help all.

I found this info and apparently it has helped some folks.

Follow these instructions to get rid of DSO exploits.
    1. Click on Start menu, and select RUN.
    2. In the Run window, type the word Regedit. Then click OK
Don't do anymore. Leave the registry window up and visible.
    3. Open up the Spybot program and run it. When you see DSO entries in Spybot, click on the plus sign beside the DSO entry and expand it. Right click right click on the Data Source Key, and select MORE DETAILS. Select JUMP TO LOCATION. For every DSO entry you have, do the same step above, until you have deleted them all.
    4. Now go look at your regedit program that I told you to open on the start, run program at first. Regedit should be showing a registry number of 1004 REG_SZ. Delete this entry and that's it. Restart your computer and run Spybot again. It will be gone.

These instructions are not mine. I found this somewhere. This is what happened when I tried to follow this. When I clicked on the plus sign to expand the DSO entry, I noticed it was in sync with the codes in my registry. AH. So that's where the problem arises! However, I do not know what a DATA SOURCE KEY is....so what do I click on? There are some blue icons--cube thingys to the right of the dso expansion info, but even so when I right click the mouse, even twice, in menu that comes up, "MORE DETAILS" is faded out, so I cannot click on that! The only other choice below it is MORE OPTIONS and that is black and clickable. When I do that, out to the right it says "clear all"and that clears the immediate window with the information. Then I had to start all over. Can anyone tell me...#1...where is the "data resource key"that I am supposed to click on? and #2...why do I not have the option of clicking on MORE DETAILS as the directions state?

According to the response I found along with the instructions, other folks have applauded the info. I cant get it to work for me. I have windows XP. Could that be the difference?
