How do you receive your TV, antenna, cable or satellite? Whichever it is your laptop has to be physically connected to the signal source, such as an antenna, though I've never seen a laptop that has such connections. They are normally to be found on Media Center PCs.

Depending on your ISP and the type of contract you have it is now becoming the norm to receive TV on a computer over the internet rather than through antennas etc.

Experiment with it in different locations but tbh I think it unlikely that that tiny antenna is going to pick up DTV signals satisfactorily. Hope I'm wrong. :)

With no other reference to QAM channels it appears that you have a device that only works with Over The Air digital channels. In short, there's no tuner in it that works with digital cable. This is DVB-T, the T stands for Terrestrial, or antenna broadcast. You'll want DVB-C most likely, the C standing for Cable. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_Video_Broadcasting#Transmission DVB-S would be for Satellite.
