Dual AMD Opteron or AMD Athlon 64 FX-55?

I am building a new system that I will be using for

-Static Design
-Video Editing
-3d Animation
-Gaming


The two proccessors I am choosing between are

- Dual AMD Opteron™ 246 2.0 GHz 64-Bit

- AMD Athlon™ 64 FX-55 Processor with HyperTransport Technology

Which one will be the best fit for my intended uses?

 

Welp...correct me if I am wrong, Opterons are 64 bit ONLY.

So, unless you will be using XP64, you won't be doing much gaming.

I think the best advice anyone can give you right now is:

Find out if your applications support dual CPUs. If they don't, then dual CPUs may be an utter waste.

 

I hope I can help you out with this. This is the system I am running and I love it!!!! and wouldn't go with anything else. Just to fill you in, I do A/V editing, 3D animation, 2D animation. I work in all the regular programs such as Photoshop, Illustrator, Illusion, Flash, and my fave After Effects. These ar my system details:

Gigabyte GA-7DPXDW-P AMD socket A dual processor motherboard
Promise raid function
2 x 120 gig for raid
1 80 gig for C:
2 x AMD Athlon MP 2400+
2.5 gigs Samsung PC 2700 ecc registered ram
Matrox Millenium P-750 display card
Matrox RT.X 10 video capture card ( not much difference between the 10 and 100 you will save some $ )

What I love is the on board promise raid function. Do an animation in Maya and render it out to the raid drives and that puppy is done in no time.

That vid card will do squat on the gaming side.

 

You are right about that but I don't play games. I thought A/V editing and animation was his main concern. My fault.
