Dual boot two hard drives

Hi All i am trying to set up a machine with two hard drives one with win 98se and the other with 2000 or XP i have a maxtor HD d740x-6l can you please tell me what i should have the jumper setting at to achive this.

Hello there. First, you can only boot off one HDD. One would have to be a slave drive and you cannot boot off of a slave. I suppose you could have a SATA drive with an OS on it and an ATA drive with an OS on it, but you would have to go into BIOS every time you want to change boot device and you would have to choose one. You can partition one drive and have 2 OS's on it. You would have to choose upon boot which to boot to. Of course, NONE of this is advised. It is best to have one master and a slave with the master having the OS on it. Jumper accordingly. Here is the Maxtor site. http://www.seagate.com/maxtor/

 

I have 2 hard drives that have os and I can boot from both the Master and the slave, I just go into bios and tell it to boot from either, not really necessary to have this setup but the slave drive came out of my old pc so I through it in and away she went no worries being the slave and booting up. I would suggest creating another partition on the one drive though, that way it will ask you which OS do wish to load each time you turn it on.
