Dual Channel Memory Question

    I'm hoping for a definative answer on this:

    For a newer mobo such as the MSI neo2 plat or neo 4 which has 4 dual channel dimms, can I still use 1 stick 1GB 1 512MB standard DDR RAM, or will Ithe board only support RAm in dual channel?

    I want to upgrade my CPU and mobo, but I dont want to shell out for another gig of ram too.
