I was going to buy some memory for a computer I'm building and I want to put 1GB into it. My question is: should I go with a 2x512MB dual channel setup or a single 1GB stick?

Yes! Go dual channel, P4's NEED dual channel. Make sure you get at least PC3200 ram for maximum speed :)

Okay, I might as well tell you guys about the memory I am looking at:

Also, is $200 a good deal (the memory is brand new...)?

Yes and yes, but I've never heard of that brand... Why don't you just get some good corsair from newegg?

I agree with Max Powerz, go for Corsair, it has a lifetime warranty, I have 2 x 512 in my machine, it's excellent. I've never heard of Legacy Electronics and I would not feel confident buying RAM if they only give 12 months warranty.

Okay, sounds like Corsair wins! Thanks guys; I have bought lots of computer parts, but never really focused on buying memory. You helped me straighten things out :).

i'd go for a pair of corsair myself .. I've never heard of legacy electronics so I can;t say if they're bad or not .. looks to me as if they would be compatible though

All ram is dual channel as long as you buy two of the same type of memory. So if you wanted 1GB of ram you'd buy 2 512MB sticks of corsair ;)
