I just recently installed a pioneer DVR-109@A09 dual/double layer and my computer doesn't read it. But the worst part is that since I had a cd/dvd writer drive and a cd-rom drive, I removed the CD-rom drive and placed in the dual drive and now my computer doesn't recognize my former dvd/cd writer drive either! I need serious help here.

PS: I've tried going to add new hardware but it doesn't help much because it says it can't find the software for my dual layer writer and it just completely ignores my former drive.

    Which OS are you using?

By computer doesnt read it do you mean it cannot been seen in my computers list of drives?

a few quick things to check,

    1. Is the drive recognised in the bios? ( to enter bios, at boot look for the key to press )

    2. Is the small jumper on the drive set to master/slave depending if anything else shares the cable?

    3. In Device Manager are their any yellow ? marks?

3a. You could always delete the cd drive from device manager and re-boot and let the OS pickup the new hardware again and install the correct driver ( as the os has the device drivers for cd drives built in )

Drive is doesn't show up anywhere not even on the device manager. When I hooked it up I made sure everything was cabled the right way like wise to the cd-rom connections.

Thanks for your intent in helping me but I fixed it on my own by just switching the drives around. Thanks!

More than likely, you had the drives set at Master and slave...since you rearanged it, they became what you needed them to be.

Some say, setting the jumpers to CS (Cable Select) is the best way to go.

I'm still in the mindset of Master and slave on each IDE device!

I gather the 80-line IDE cables work fine with the jumper set to CS on both drives on the channel. Master and slave will be determined by the drive's position on the cable.

That doesn't work with the standard 40-line IDE cables. For those, you have no choice but to identify the master and the slave by jumpering each drive appropriately.
