Just purchased a new GeForce 6800LE and am having troubles running dual monitors. I upgraded from a GeForce4 TI4800 which I was able to run dual support with ease.

    Main monitor: Dell 2005FPW (digital),
Secondary montior: Dell M991 CRT. PC is a
    Dell Dimension 9100
    P4 1.5Ghz
    768MB RAM

I'll boot up my PC with main mointor only then plug in my 2nd monitor. Then I'll go to windows display properties and only the main montior is displayed. Also, only 1 monitor listed in the device manager. However, if I go into nVidia's display tools (nView), it does detect both monitors and I can run dual monitors just fine. This would be okay except through nView it does not let me setup an extened desktop, only strech or clone. Extened desktop is what I'm looking to do.

The other, and probably more serious problem, is that when I bootup with both monitors plugged in, I get stuck at startup on the black screen with the blinking cursor in the top left. I've started up with both main and 2nd monitor individualy with no problems. Also booted with each monitor and tried adding the other as the secondary with no success.

I have went through the device manager and tried to manualy install the 2nd monitor with no luck. Drivers for both monitors are installed and work find, just not togeater with this card. Running the latest nVidia drivers 78.01.

    Anyone have any suggestions?

Just wanted to bump this, I still haven't been able to figure this out. I've been updating to the latest drivers from nVidia too.

The latest nvidia drivers are 84.21 What about your chipset drivers? Have you got the latest from dell?

I have the lastest chipset and monitor drivers from Dell. As far as I know I'm pretty up-to-date.

What puzzles me the most though is that I could run dual monitors perfectly with my 4800TI, but this one will not work - correction - windows will not recgonize 2 monitors (under the display settings). I can get get dual monitors to work via nView, however, only by streaching my desktop.

Just a thought, if I did want to see if I have the latest chipset, how do I do that? Asside from going to dell's downloads which are never very up-to-date.

Also - When I hookup an extra monitor, should it be plug-n-play or is it necessary to reboot?

Did you try connecting the second monitor before powering up the system? It doesn't seem to me a good idea to plug in any monitor when the system is powered up.

Yeah, if you check my initial post below I run into a problem with that.

When I boot up with both monitors hooked up, the system freezes starting up at the blinking cursor in the upper left corner. I thought it might just be doing something in the background, but I've left it for quite a while and it still just hangs.

However, I can boot up just fine with either monitor hooked up independantly.
