I have a new Dell desktop Inspiron 546 and it has 2 ports for monitors... 1 VGA and 1 HDMI.
I would like to connect a second monitor. Is there a way to hook both up using the HDMI connection?
I have 2 emachines E19T6W monitors... they have both VGA and DVI connections. I have ordered a HDMI to DVI cable so I can take advantage of the hi definition resolution.
Is there a way to split the HDMI or would i have to use one monitor on VGA... or? ... gosh I sure wish I knew more what I'm trying to talk about LOL

    Thanks in Advance

If you split the HDMI or any other video connection to your computer, you'll have the same thing on both monitors. Is that what you want or do you want to be able to open separate applications on each monitor?

Nope I want to extend the monitor. I use 2 at work and love the side by side usage.
I have contacted Dell and they informed me that I would need to buy another Video Card.. for the "discounted" price of only $124.99

    Sheesh...
Is this the ONLY way to set up 2 monitors?
And if so, can someone help me find a less expensive Video Card than this one?
    Thanks

Yes thanks.... but it still looks like I have to get a new video card eh?
Seems a shame to even have an integrated one in the first place.

Yes, you need to buy a video card. But, you don't need to spend $124.99, as Dell stated. That's absurd. Here's a great deal if you get it soon, before rebate offer expires:
    PNY VCG95512GXPB GeForce 9500 GT 512MB 128-bit GDDR2 PCI Express 2.0

Keep in mind this one has two DVI ports. I see it comes with a DVI-to-VGA adapter in case you need to connect a VGA monitor to it.
