I just upgraded my old desktop system from a socket 939 amd 3000+ to an athlon x2 4200+.
All is going well, device manager shows that there are now two cores, but when I open task manager it is only showing one.

Is there a setting I'v got to change, or a patch to download to change this?

Is XP Home actualy making use of both cores?

My searching for info through google has been inconclusive.

Anyone have any insights or info?

    Thanks,
    Andrew

Are you running service pack 3? as for your question, in order to take full advantage of a multi-core cpu, you need to be running a 64-bit operating system. Your cpu will get utilized just fine in xp home 32-bit, but things are done slightly faster in a 64-bit windows environment.

    Hi

Did you also re-install Windows after the upgrade of hardware? did you also re-install the chipset for your motherboard?

The Chipset re-install would be my first port of call.
