There has been a lot of discussion here about internet search engines, privacy and usage tracking, filtered results, redundant results,
    poor quality or useless results.
There have also been flurries of bashing the big guy, Google, and complaints about some of it's features, like auto-completion and instant results.

In a recent Google bashing thread, there were several mentions of DuckDuckGo (gman863, cipher, satrow).
You can't post any more comments there because that discussion degenerated into some kind of - I don't know what - and it was Closed.

Although I had tried DuckDuckGo a few times, I decided to investigate a little and also found this, which I had forgotten about.
A word to the wise, pay attention.
    Thanks satrow!

After using it for two or three days, I can say enthusiastcally, I Like It!
It even Looks nicer 'cause you can set your own background color. Now I don't have to look at that same old boring black on bright white.

    wikipedia: DuckDuckGo Features
    • No auto-completion or instant results (yes, you have to type everything)
      -
    • Privacy: does not store IP addresses, does not log user information and uses cookies only when needed
      -
    • Removes results of low-quality content designed specifically to rank highly in Google's search index and also filters pages with substantial advertising
      -
    • Weinberg stated: Using Tor and DDG, you can now be end to end anonymous with your searching
      -
    • If you use our encrypted homepage, you can be end to end encrypted
      -
    • DuckDuckGo also features what they call "!Bang" commands, which give users the ability to redirect a search to specific websites

Note: you might have to Refresh the page to get a secure connection with These links? :confused

I was happy to find duckduck after scroogle went down. Better results, no tracking...

    Very cool video, thanks!
(As a teenager I worked at an Esso, they changed to Exxon sometime later...)

Ditto. I've found that DuckDuckGo is a far better option then Google, Bing, etc.

Did try it quite a long time ago and tried it again to see whether WOT supports DuckDuckGo. As far as I can see, WOT doesn't support it. I would miss those WOT green, orange and red donuts even though I'm very careful when surfing.

BTW - I use Startpage and Ixquick which are supported by WOT.

    Hi Oma.

I use Web Of Trust too and I have the WOT extension installed with Opera, Pale Moon and Firefox.
I know it works in Opera because that's what I use and I checked PM and FF with DuckDuckGo and it also works there.
Sometimes I have to refresh the page for the doughnuts to appear.

Firefox and Pale Moon: (just updated January 29, 2013)

    Hi mjnc!

Actually what I am looking for is to set DuckDuckGo as my homepage and not as an extension in Firefox and Pale Moon.

Quite some years ago I requested to have WOT added to Startpage and Ixquick which they granted. I've posted in WOT's forum to request similar.

Don't know if this is what you're looking for, but here it is in settings. Each search find will have icons to see ratings...
