    Hi,

I bought a computer from a local computer store which didn't come with a typical manual. I want to record some old documentaries, TV shows, home movies, etc. to DVD's.

    Device Manager: Sony DVD-RW AW-G170S

On the drive: "DVD multi recorder & RW," and micro-writing, which I can't read, around the word "Disc."

    I'm guessing that means I can use either DVD+R or DVD-R. Yes/No?

If yes, which is better? If no, which one do I need to buy?

    Thanks!
    Rock

DVD-R or DVD+R......well I spent ages trying to fathom that one out after I bought my Pioneer DVR drive.

Eventually after reading many many many posts and reviews at clubcdfreaks, I settled on DVD+R and more specifically Verbatim.

Everyone was raving about the Verbatim's and as far as my Pioneer was concerned it gave excellent results. +R because from my recollections they are more forgiving and give better quality results. That is what I remember in any case.

In any case I am very pleased with the burn results to date but the Verbatims though great for my Pioneer drive may not yield the best results for your Sony drive.

    Good Luck
