Duplicate contacts on pda

I have an ipaq pda running pocket pc 2002. I checked the contacts box in permanent PIM (stores them in non volatile flash memory) and it has duplicated all of my contacts.

For example, if I had the contact : john smith, majorgeeks, tel 00....etc
it has added : smith, john, majorgeeks, tel 00.... etc

Is there a software program that will delete the duplicates? There are over 1000 contacts in there so doing it individually is not desirable!
