Is it normal for System Mechanic to find 12,000 duplicate files on my computer?

I am not impressed with System Mechanic and de-installed it after it swished thru my grey box and came up with some astonishing findings some time last year. Many of the files it recommended that should be got rid of were in fact files that I know should not have been got rid of.
That's my experience - others may find differently.
My advice is to be very cautious - also there are other very good progs that will do a better job in my opinion. Crapcleaner Emptempt for starters
    Hope this helps

Depending on your OS, you will have thousands of duplicate files.

In terms of the likelihood of screwing up your pc, messing with duplicate files ranks right up there with fooling around in the registry. Most duplicate files are duplicates for a reason. Some can probably be deleted; others definitely not. The trick is knowing which is which. I'd just leave them alone.

I wasn't impressed with System Mechanic either, and only had it installed for a short time. There are plenty of free programs that do the same things and do them better IMO.

Thank you for your advice. I have already uninstalled Sys Mech.
