duplicate files

how can I go about eracing duplicate files on my pc w/o messing anything up?
also,I would like to know how i can stop window installer from tring to instal something i have already removed.

 

Ok I need a little more info then I'll get on it and figure it out. Ok first off what duplicate files do you want gone? Also I need to know your OS. Windows 98 -or- XP... And what program is trying to reinstall? Was it installed with a disk or did it come with the computer?

 

i am runing xp.am told that there are files in my pc that are duplicate and slow it down.i try to keep pc updated and clean,but it stillis slow.i am not good on a pc upkeep or what needs to be done deeply to make it like it was new.
the installer was fixed.figured that one out. i use advanced window care2 pro as my clean up.also have windows defender,norton installed...i need all the help i can get to keep this runing good.i don't have the money to buy stuff to do it with so i have to use free stuff.

Unless you KNOW what you are deleting...I don't recommend going for the duplicate files to free up space. Read this thread and that should help a whole lot!

thanks....the other problem is back..i had a lexmark all n 1 that i loaded from disk..i unstallled it later and now thia will not let me remove from add/remove "lexmark fax soultions" how can i get this out?

 

Go to the thread that Toni gave, you will find CCleaner there and its usage, that should help get rid of the Lexmark residue.

i downloaded the cc an used it,but the lexmark residue is still there.still cannot remove it free add/remove...what is left that i can do?
