Duplicate startup program=virus?

recguard is from HP and is their to stop a user from accidently deleting the recovery partition, its not a needed process but could well have two components to it, if the startup listing gives you path and file names then post them and we can advise as it shoudl be in this location C:\WINDOWS\SMINST\RECGUARD.EXE if anywhere else then yes its suspect.

This is linked to your 3rd party Audio control panel System Tray icon (M-audio) and they are generally not needed startups, so what I would try is and using StartupCPL untick one of them and see if that affects sound if not then leave it unticked.

You could also try unticking the other one and reboot and see if that affects sound as in the main the audio control panel options are found in the main Control Panel listing in Windows (I have always deleted the 3rd party audio control panel system tray icons) so check if the system tray and the Control Panel linsk goto same Audio Control Panel options, if they do then leave both unticked from starting with your PC.


The possible reason for two of the same files is an Audio driver update may not have cleared the old reference.
