Duplication Of Modem Entry In Control Panel

I turn my modem off at night, and restart it along with x32Win10ProV21H2 in my PC in the morning. On most days Control Panel will show an extra entry for the Modem : Archer_VR1600v - which I can delete, to bring to total back to 1. Although rebooting the modem SEEMS to be the cause, there are times when a modem reboot does NOT have that effect, but something else later causes it. How can I prevent this reduplication ?

Why? They are made to run 24 x 7. Turning them on and off may shorten the lifespan. Turning off doesn't save that much on electricity. If you are concerned, pull the ethernnet cable out of the router part but leave the device powered up.

Not sure why Control Panel would show an extra icon/entry to your modem. Kinda like I'm also not sure why Explorer will sometimes show a particular folder under "drives". In both cases, these annoying but harmless 'duplicates' will go away, after 'one or several' Explorer closing and reopening. But I agree with plodr above: no reason to turn on/off modem every night (or ever). Think about how more and more people add "smart appliances" to their homes via Wifi - so Wifi simply stays on continuously.

Thank you both for the advice, but it does not address my issue. I have already stated that it need not be the modem rebooting that is the cause. The harmless duplicates did NOT go away. When I first discovered the fault, there were 38 that had accumulated after I Upgraded Windows to V212H

Have you tried performing a 'roll-back' from the update to see if that resolves things?

I haven't tried that, and would rather get a targeted technical solution rather than a blanket procedure. It may interest you that I was unable to update the system from the 3.5Gb install file, but could change Winver to V212H within seconds using an MSU file.

Well the MSU should suffice then......how did you install it?
You shouldnt need to perform this manually, but rather allow Wusa.exe its automation from windows enabling a seamless install and a simple roll back if needed.

I just double clicked the MSU. I've always used media creator before, because I was not aware of Wusa.exe. I suppose its too late for updating to V21H2 by that method, but I could keep it in mind for the future. Does Wusa.exe pre-exist in Windows10 ?
