    Hey all,

I've got a problem that could be fixed if I had the driver installation CD for this, but I don't. I'm using a school miniDV camera (Sony) and I'm attempting to edit this footage I have on my computer. However, everytime the computer searches for compatible drivers and software, it comes up with nothing. It attempts to connect to the internet to search but it comes with nothing, in the end. What I don't understand is two things about this whole situation: 1.) If my computer searches the internet (Windows Update), shouldn't it come up with something because there are so many different possibilities? and 2.) Is there anything I can do to install the necessary software without the CD? I don't have it because it's not my camera, it's my school's. What's strange is that when I put in an external hard drive through a USB connection, it didn't go to the hardware wizard at all. Same with any digital camera that I put in through a USB. Why is this only happening with a miniDV camera that's supposedly supported by Windows XP? Hope to get some answers...
    Thanks in advance.

I'm no expert on this subject but use a digital camera often and work with photos ..
From what I understand microsoft supports windows and have drivers for most common hardware ,, BUT a lot of stuff gets old and they no longer write for new windows software , There are so many ! If its not included
in your op system most go to the manufacturer for the driver and updates .
You'll have to get to sonys site and down load . Check that it will work with
xp or whatever you are using. Download and install manually,, Unless it has a installer .
My camera also had a update for its internal software to charge the lithium cells properly. Worked like a charm .
The usb software and cables I never messed with .I just bought a memory card reader iii 15 bucks or so .. Computer sees it like another drive .

Good luck Hope this helps !
