Burn does not seem to be working from windows xp(dvd-r). Wanted to make a install disc with all updates on it. Do I need two programs.? I have Macrium Reflect and Image Burn installed. Properties shows dvd-r blanks as 0bytes used and 0bytes unused with blue color instead of pink. Set to Ultra DMA. Have about 6 different options including PIO.
I used Braserio from ubuntu and got 1 to burn (data disc). Has some program installers on it. After that it seems to only want to burn a iso. So now I have a iso that I don't know how to restore.(and 5 more wasted blanks).
I don't know if the windows xp drivers for the burner are ok. Don't see any updates. Is the same original CD-DVD-R device that came with e-machine. I suppose if i can work from ubuntu to image the xp partition, that way maybe I can do this xp reinstall dvd small enough to fit on one dvd. I don't know if it will work ??

You may need to install IMAPI on your XP drive. I've attached the file in a ZIP archive.

Install it and restart your computer.

If you used Macrium Reflect to image your drive, the image may not fit on a single layer DVD. You may need to burn it to a DVD DL (if your optical drive supports them).

You'd then use Macrium's Rescue disk to restore your drive from that image.

Have not used the dvd writer on this machine a lot. A while back i made some mp3 discs on cd-r. Using cheap discs and the dvd drive is not the best. I would get a few errors. Ended up with a few coasters. I can set controller mode to multiword dma 0,1, or 2 or even pio if that might reduce errors. Applied the fix you suggested. I think IMAPI was already there. In services Properties is set on manual. Didn't help. Already tried lower ultra dma settings. At least it tries to do something. Maybe issues with motherboard or something wont let it work at default settings. ?

Many people, including myself, have had issues with Memorex media. I now use Verbatim primarily and have had no issues with Polaroid DVD-R which I get from my local supermarket chain. My internal DVD±RW is an NEC ND-6650A and I have and use an external Sony Optiarc slot-loader and an external LG GP60 Super Drive tray-loader.

I am not sure what the culprit is ? Burner just now performed like it is supposed to. I had a hunch that I should try fresh install of xp. So I did. There must be a update or something that messed it up.
I mean I only use express for windows updates. Thereis always the video and sound drivers I have to install. The video and sound appear to be onboard and I could be wrong but I think this computer came with win xp so I do not understand why video-sound do not work on xpsp1. I always just use Slimdrivers and let it install. Slimdrivers always finds that Ide controller and ethernet driver are outdated and sometimes I let update, but think now I will only do what is necessary. So a little confused about how to proceed, but happy that bburner works at least temporarily . Will see ? Right now have only applied servpak3 and AC97 sound drivers.
