DVD burner broken?

So I have a Toshiba ODD DVD SD-R6252 in my HP Pavillion ZD7000 laptop, and for a while it was working fine, I was using dvd+r disks, and burning data disks with it like it was nothing. I use RecordNow!, which came with my laptop, and one day I go to burn a disk, and it goes through the whole writing process, and spits out my disk, but says an error prevented it from writing succesfully. I check to see if I can still read my dvds I've already burnt and I can, and I can still read and burn cds. I look online, and find new firmware for my burner, from HP's website, so I install that, but now, not only can I not burn dvds, but when I put in a dvd I have burned, it just keeps spinning in the drive, and I can't open it up.

If anyone has any solutions to this problem, I would be very greatful, I'm not a huge techhead, but I think I can fix this if I know what the solution is.

it sounds like the media you used was bad
do you have any other dvd+r's to test with?

 

The first dvds I used were imation, and these are the only ones I've gotten to work, but the ones I have left don't.
I've also used TDK and Sony, all at the right burn speed etc.

 

try lowering the write speed

After contacting HP tech support, I uninstalled and reinstalled the burner itself, and using Nero, managed to burn a dvd+r without error(or so I think), but, alas, I have no way of finding out if the dvd was succesful, because I still cannot read my dvds.

Nero burned at 2.4X, which is what everything I've looked at tells me to be my burners correct speed.
