DVD burner causing system to lockup

Odd situation here. Wife's comp has this problem wherein, if she opens the DVD burner drawer to insert a disk, it causes the sys to lock up, requiring a reboot. It appears to be a random thing in that it doesn't matter what is running at the time. I don't have any idea where to start with this one. System is as follows: P4 E2.8., MSI MB 865PE,1 gig ram, MSI 9200SE VC, WD 120 gig SATA boot drive, WD 160 gig EIDE, WD 80 gig EIDE, Asus 50X CD-ROM, Sony 8X DVD burner(oem), High Power 350W PSU.
Any thoughts or ideas would be most appreciated. Thanks.

Is it possible that the disks themselves have something to to with this?

unhook the CD-Rom Bill and see if the DVD still locks up the PC?

ps. has it always been like this or has it started after you installed any new hardware?

It has been this way on and off for awhile. The system is as it was built. But I will try that.Thanks.

Oh so you know my reasoning behing asking you to unhook a drive is that I have a sneeky feeling this could be power related... 350W seems a bit on the tight side for all the drives, GFX card and any extra fans you have installed.
