Morning, My son-in-law bought a dvd burner for his tv. He would also like to back up his old dvd's using a dvd player. The instructions aren't exactly clear on how to do this. Any Suggestions?

Your question isn't the clearest. But my question would be - What sort of DVD Recorder has he bought? Does it have a Hard Drive? Is he intending to use this new recorder to back-up his old DVDs from a PC DVD player? More Info please.

    Records onto the DVD-R/RW formats
    DVD-ROM, CD-R/RW and MP3 playback
    Easy on-screen user menu
Component video output, S-video input and outputs
    Audio/video input and outputs
    Digital audio output
    Dolby digital
    Parental Lock feature
NOTE: only compatible with up to 4X media

To my knowledge this is the specs on the burner. There is no harddrive. They want to back up their dvd's to preserve their origionals. The children like to use the origionals as toys, etc. when they can get a hold to them and it does take them only a bite or 2 to destroy one. Thanks!

Sorry...this hooks up to the tv has nothing to do with a pc.

Unless it has 2 drives, or has a hard drive then I don't see how it's possible to backup a dvd unless you use a computer in this situation! http://forums.majorgeeks.com/images/smilies/confused.gif

Can you give a bit more info on the product?
It looks like you can record from the tv onto dvd, but not backup dvds...

I will look more in the morning and try and figure it out. If I have problems and/or I solve it I will let you know. Was just hoping to be able to get a heads up on it before I get there.

Perhaps naming the actual brand and model of this device could help out more than just listing the specs of the device.

But, typically, most DVD devices for home entertainment centers will not duplicate other DVDs. This is a security/copy protections scheme.

Back in 2000, there was, at one time, before it was recalled. A DVD and VCR combo that allowed you to copy a DVD to a VCR tape. There was a legal soul out there who posted this publically, and hence the recall ensued.
