It worked a few days ago but now it isn't and I don't know why. It doesn't matter which program I use to try to burn either.

Whenever I try to burn onto DVD it is saying I just have an ImageRecorder and asks me to save file as ISO. I've always just used this drive for burning DVDs so I don't know why suddenly it isn't letting me? I've uninstalled and reinstalled the whole drive and still having the problem.

Anyone know what's wrong or how to fix this?

What burning programs are installed? Have you recently used any virtual drive programs like Daemon Tools, or Alcohol 52 or 120, or Magic Disc, etc? Have you tried uninstalling your main burning program and reinstalling it? How about a system restore to date before the problem started?

I haven't used any of those. I've tried both Nero 7 and Power2Go CyberLink and neither work. I also have WinAVI converter which also burns which I tried on there and it also didn't work. I haven't tried uninstalling and reinstalling the program since it seems to be a problem with every program I use.

I thought about doing a system restore to a couple days ago but it says I have no restore points. I've restored a few times in the past and never had it said that but yeah..that's preventing me from restoring to a date. Maybe there's something wrong with my computer as a whole??

I'm really trying to avoid having to reinstall the operating system which would erase everything...

I had a feeling that Nero was installed. I think it may have changed some registry entries so all other programs think the DVD burner is only an 'image recorder'. So, you can download Nero's own "Clean Tool" from this link. There's also a 'bundle' of tools for a more thorough removal of Nero available from here. I'm pretty sure that completely removing Nero then re-installing it will fix the problem. If you don't have the install CD for Nero, be sure to open it up and get your serial numbers before uninstalling it. Then you can simply download the installer from the Nero web site or from here.
