What's the rated speed of your media? I've found it very easy to get poor media, too.
What's the rated speed of your burner?
What speed is your application set to use?

The speed of the media is usually printed on the packaging.
The speed of your drive can be found in device manager (right click My computer, click properties, select the hardware tab, and press the device manager button)
I can't tell you 100% where to find the speed your app is set to use, as I don't know what you're using. Check through the options and settings, and I'm certain you will find (likely a combo box) that lists a few different speed settings.

Generally speaking, the lower you set the burn speed, the more likely you are to get a successful burn.
