I have a 8x dvd burner, which has been working fine, until recently. I bought a pack of 1x-16x blanks, which I thought would be fine, but I get an error of " incapabilty format" when burning. Still burns using the old blanks, which has no speed indicated on them. Checked for firmware update- none available. I've bought an external 16x burner, but still get same message, took it back. Don't want to crack case unless I have to. Any other suggestions?

If your talking about burning dvds what format is it + or -r?
You could be trying to burn a dvd format that your burner doesn't support.

Sounds like you havew a burner that's picky about certain brands.
I would say the next time you need to buy more blanks just buy more of the brand that you say that does work with your burner.

problem with that is the 8x is being phased out & are hard to find. Also they are rarely on sale & go for $4.99 a 5 pk.,16x you can get 100 for $24 on sale. might just replace burner.
