DVD Burner

Question, what brand would you guys recommend as far as a DVD Burner is concerned? I'm planning on getting one within a week. I looked through newegg and noticed they're all about the same price for a 16x burner. I'm thinking either Samsung, Lighton or NEC. Also, media + and -, any difference? Is one better than the other? Please let me know......thanx.

 

I have a Lite-On and have had no problems.

 

I have had no problems with my NEC 2500a other than when I used Ridata DVD+Rs by mistake; when I tried to watch them in an incompatible machine I thought they had failed to record at first. Now I make sure to order Ridata DVD-Rs and have no compatibility problems, other than with some women that is.
I would guess that the latest NEC model would be a good unit.

 

get a burner that does both types of media(+/-). If you are doing movies or transfering data from one computer to another some older dvd drives will like one type or another. I have a nec and a sony and they both work pretty good. The superdrive on my mac has had the least problems though.

What software comes with the NEC?

 

So which format do you guys preffer? Looks all burners are capable of burning in both formats, but the least supported format always has slower speeds. Also, does the x in speed rating still represent 150KB?
