Im not sure if this is the section i should post this in so forgive me if it isnt. Im new to burning dvds. I have some movies on my hard drive that im burnnig to dvds. I got most of them to work, but a few when i try to play them in my ps2, Which is what i use as my home dvd player, a message comes up that says tv system doesnt match? Is there anything that i can do to correct this problem so that i can watch them on my tv with my ps2, The dvds work fine in my portable dvd player.

The problem is that the discs that work are probably encoded NTSC, which is the standard for North American videos. It has something to do with frames per second (29.97fps) and lines per inch and some other technical BS. The DVDs that don't playback are PAL, which is what most of the rest of the world uses, including Europe. Most home DVD players can handle both formats without any problems, but this is obviously not the case with your PS2. If the PS2 has a setting for PAL/NTSC, you'll have to change it with certain movies. It may have a setting for both, or an "ANY" setting or a "MULTI" setting. If not, just make sure all your movies are burned as NTSC. Now if you don't live in North America, the exact opposite would be the case ;)
    Good luck!

yep, unfortunately, i dont think ps2 has a setting for that b/c the ps2 are made in either Pal or NTSC, so there's no option to choose btw the two...

wow, didn't know tv has settings for that?...but i thoght it was from how the dvd player reads the disc?, nothing to with tv?

but i've only tried nero (forgot which program) in which to convert a pal to ntsc...i was for 1 for 2 trying it...maybe you might want to search for a better one...

Some TV's have an NTSC/PAL settings, some don't. Mine does, but I've never tried it because I've never had to, everything plays fine (and the DVD player has DivX playback too ;) ). Even if your TV does have it, it may not make a difference.
Now, back to the files. If the files are AVI's on your PC, you can convert them to NTSC DVDs and burn them using DVD Flick. It's free and available here at MajorGeeks. If the files are already in DVD format on your hard drive, and already in PAL format, then things get a bit more tricky. Here's some links with info:

Lots of the info is pretty technical, so it may be confusing. Afterdawn is a great site for this type of stuff, so more research there and at www.videohelp.com is probably in your near future. If the files are AVI's (or MPEG's or just about any other video format), use DVDFlick: http://www.majorgeeks.com/DVD_Flick_d5530.html Here's the link to the how-to guide for DVDFlick: http://www.dvdflick.net/guide.php
    Good luck!
