Hi, I am not sure wither this is a hardware or software problem, just lately every time i burn a dvd movie there is a white ring around the end of the movie on the disk, and this causes it to freeze and wont play, cd-r disks seem to be fine, i thought it was nero doing it as it seemed to be fine when burning with roxio, but now the same is happening with roxio, also strange things are happing when i open roxio and burn a disk, then close the window it will not open so that i can burn another disk, i have to restart the pc for it to open, have uninstalled and reinstalled the software, but no change.then it could be the dvd writer on its way out?? hope this is making sense, any ideas would be great. thanks

This is just my opinion. I would never use Roxio for burning anything. I've had too many issues with it in the past. I know that the small burning application built into Windows XP is a downsized version of Roxio software (or something), I've just had to remove the after market versions from PCs too many times.

Nero is okay. But I prefer Sonic Record Now. Also Alcohol 120 is pretty good.

One thing I've noticed that some burning software charges extra for DVD burning capabilities. You may want to make sure that you have all the necessary DVD capabilities and that you have the correct DVDs for you application (DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD RAM, etc.) (I worked with one setup that would only copy correctly on DVD RAM. confused)

    Just somethings to think about.

The new Roxio is now Sonic, i believe they do have an update for that.

    Wow, didn't know that. :(:cry

I guess that's why I'm still using the old versions of Sonic. :D

If changing the software doesn't help, go into your device manager and get the model number for the DVDRW drive. Then find the latest firmware for that model, download it, and flash the drive. The firmware update should be at the drive maker's web site; full flashing instructions should be available there also. Just be absolutely 100% posititve that the firmware you download is for your exact model of drive!!! Disasterous things can happen from trying to flash with the wrong firmware..... good luck!
