I want to burn a *.avi* movie file that's on my hardrive onto a disc. What kind of disc do I need and what burning software--I have nerovision3 & nero6express--do I use? The file is 717,130KB in size.

(I'm not sure if this thread should be under Hardware or Software, so sorry if it's not in the right place).

A DVD-R or a DVD+R wil both work. Nero 6 with Nerovision should work.

I tired nerovision with a dvd-r 4.7GB and nero said it wasn't big enough so it had adjust it somehow to make it fit, and then when I went to preview the movie the picture was slower than the sound. Do I hafta get a bigger disc or is there some other adjustment in nero to make the movie play normally?

hi, what for do you want to use nerovision prog? as far as i know it's used for video capture. However nero express should work fine. and it's a bit strange that it give a message "it wasn't big enough" for 4.7Gb dvd, or may be i don't understand what you meant?

I download a lot of mpeg and avi files and then burn them to DVD using NeroVision Express (I would defintely use it over Nero Express). I'm hardly an expert, but I've figured out a few things through trial and error. File size shouldn't be an issue, especially if the file is smaller than 4.7 GB. Even if you have an oversize file, Nero can reduce the quality speed to accomodate your needs. (It will prompt you if this needs to be done). Sometimes the dubbing will be off when you go to the preview window, and your DVD will still turn out to be fine; I've actually seen this quite often (this is particularly true if you have multiple programs running). Sometimes, though, when the dubbing is off in the preview window, the dubbing will be off when you burn the DVD. I THINK you're pretty much screwed if this happens. Some avi files are just corrupt or imperfect when you download them. When this happens to me I just search the net for an alternate rip of the same file. I hope this helps! I'm not much of a computer expert, but I know Nero!

How did the finished movie turn out? The preview is meant for proofing the layout, not to be an accurate representation of the finished product. Instead of burning it to disc, select "Burn to hard disc folder". If it plays OK, then burn it to DVD this way.

Hi, it appears that you merely want to backup a file. For a filesize of 717130 KB, you dont need a DVD - a 700MB CD should be enough. Though the filesize is 700.3 MB most good blank CD media should let you burn up to 701-702 MB without a problem. In Nero Express select Data CD, select the file and make sure you have the option 'allow files to be added later' unchecked.

What it looks like you have done is tried to burn as a DVD video disc, and Nero has converted the avi file to a standard DVD format playable on home DVD players. Nero is not too good at this and you will get sync problems on many files. If you do want to convert it to DVD video, use DVDSanta or VSO ConvertXtoDVD
