What kind of DVD are you using?

Check to see if the DVD Player takes + or - DVDs.

I've always found that the right software makes or breaks the DVD backup/burning process.

To convert an .AVI to a DVD playable format, I would recommend using DivXToDVD, as it is simple to use, and free. Put in your divx encoded file (.AVI in this case), and it will output a DVD-formatted .ISO image file.

You can then burn this .ISO with your favourite image-burning utility. Nero has this function, though use caution, the wrong utility in Nero will put the .ISO file directly to disc without translating it into the disc's contents, and you'll waste the disc.

For ease-of-use, I prefer ImgBurn, which is another freeware application made specifically for this purpose.

Try to use a DVD-R or a DVD+R disk to burn on, not a re-writable disk because many home DVD players cannot read DVDRW disks.

I suggest using a DVD-R disk because it is more compatible with DVD players.

Yeah, use a DVD-R blank, and try using DVD Flick to convert the AVI to standard DVD format. DVD Flick also will burn the movie using ImgBurn which is built in. Here's a link to a DVD Flick how-to guide: http://www.beginwithsoftware.com/videoguides/dvd-flick-guide.html You can download DVD Flick for FREE from here: http://www.majorgeeks.com/DVD_Flick_d5530.html I use it all the time to convert AVI's, MPEG's, MP4's, and other formats to DVD to watch on my home player. It takes 90min to 2hrs to convert the AVI to the completed, burned DVD. Try it, you'll like it ;) Good luck!!!

Make sure this player accepts DVD+ and DVD- or just one or the other.
Some older ones (even just a year or two) and even brand new models will only play one or the other.

I think maybe it is the DVD player hooked into the TV that may be the problem.
This is a technicality that is usually obscure and VERY confusing IMHO.

:D:D:D Fan-freekin-tastic! :D:D:D I swear by DVD Flick and ALWAYS recommend it to folks who are new in the DVD burning universe 'cuz it's so easy to use and it's complete (it converts and burns all in one). You just select the file, check a few settings, and let 'er rip! 90 minutes later you've got a movie to watch!!!! Just remember to lower the burn speed in ImgBurn BEFORE you start the whole process. I always burn at 4x. At speeds over 4x or 8x you may run into pixelation/artifact problems and/or lip-sync/audio problems.....
Anyway- I'm stoked it worked for you.... keep on burnin' ;)
