DVD/CD Burner CD recording not working

Hey all,

Can someone please help me. Just recently my dvd/cd burner has partially stopped working. I can read and write dvds but it will not read or right cds anymore. Is there something i can do to fix this please. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Have you tried cleaning the laser inside the burner with something like this example Memorex - Laser Lens Cleaner for CD/DVD Players - 32028003

It does not have to be this brand.

 

Ok I Gave that a shot but it didnt help. I have an older cd-r/rw from HP in my system as well. Its stopped reading everything. saying drive is not accessible. so now both of my drives are screwy. The second one quit after i installedd SP 2 for windows XP. Any addition advice would help.

 

It won't even read the lens cleaning CD?

If so, and if the warranty has expired, you can disconnect the drive, open it up, and gently clean the lens w/ a q-tip...I've used this trick a few times, and it's helped immensely to lengthen the lifespan of my CD players... if that works, you should get on a regular schedule of using the cleaning CD.

It's fairly strongly unrecommended, however, and if you do this while the drive is still under warranty, I'm fairly sure you'll void it. (there's lots of things the void warranties though, and alot of people disregard -- use your own discretion)

 

have you checked in device manager for any exclaimation marks or error codes,also updating your firmware may help,can you post the specs of your computer as well as the drive specs in as much detasil as possible

 

Yea I have no errors in the device manager. Both of my drives are not working properly. I dont know where to get the firmware for them. I tried the sony web site for my writer and i couldnt find the model number. My hp cd writer plus (old School) isnt working either and this one stopped shortly after installing SP2.
