When I burn a dvd everything seems to be working just fine until I try to play the dvd. Each of the 3 different dvd players I have tried all say "no disc". I checked the settings on the burning program I'm using, which is Allok, but as I said everything seems to be fine. I used device manager to see if there was a problem there and to also see if the driver need to be updated, but everything there was fine and up to date already. I tried to burn a cd to find out if it was also not working. Each of the burning programs I tried kept telling me to insert a blank cd, even after trying several different brands of cd's too. I ran scans with my anti-virus and anti-malware programs since I wasn't sure if a virus or spyware could possibly be causing the problems. But as I said I'm not finding any cause for the problems. I haven't tried system restore yet. I have an external hard drive I can save all my important files to in case I need to reformat (is that the right word?) and go back to factory settings. I also wanted to know if uninstalling then reinstalling the burner might help? I just want to say any help and suggestions will be greatly appreciated. I'm listing the details of what I'm running below.......

    My laptop is an
    HP G61 Notebook
AMD Sempron (tm) M100 2.0 GHz 64 Bit OS
    Windows Home Premium

    The Dvd/cd burners details are
    HP CDDVDW TS-L633M ATA Device
    Driver version 6.1.7600.16385 (win7_rtm.090713-1255):)

My one DVD player will not play DVD+R disks. If I want to play anything in that, I have to burn to a DVD-R disk. So my question is, what are you burning to?

The cd not burning is an entire different issue. I combo burner uses two different lasers. The DVD might work and the CD might be broken.
The only way to determine if the burner is broken is to: a) install a new burner b) try an external burner.

Does your computer recognize the DVD as written and containing the DVD files? Will a player that can handle those type of files such as VLC play the video? (Just want to determine if the DVD is burned completely and can be recognized as containing DVD files on a computer.) That would tell us if the burner is working and whether it might be a compatibility problem with your DVD players.

Sorry took a bit to reply. Well I tried quite a few different discs, dvd's and cd's I have previously burned using this computer. It didnt play any of them so I tried some Dvd's and games I purchased from a store and still nothing. So I guess this means the drive is no longer working at all. Is there anything that I can try before I take it in to be fixed?

It sounds like the drive is dead. Rather than paying $$$ to have a new one installed, put the money towards an external unit and connect it by USB to the computer. Unless you really need the disk drive when you travel with the laptop.
The unit you buy can be used on any computer you own.
    I bought something like this
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...on_external_DVD_burner-_-27-106-356-_-Product
because my netbook doesn't have any optical drive. I tried it and it works on 6 of the 7 computers in the house. I did not try it on the 7th computer. That one is so old and slow I would not use it to burn anything!
